Stephen Thomas – Local Artist
Beacon House Gallery is situated within my private residence in Bonfire Hill.
As a frequent visitor to the South Hams since the age of nine, I bought a holiday flat overlooking Salcombe estuary in 1996 and moved permanently to Salcombe in 2007, setting up the Gallery in 2013.
I work in watercolour, acrylic and oil. Many of my paintings are based on my extensive collection of personal photographs of the visual delights of the South West. These views – of Salcombe, Hope Cove, Kingsbridge, Newton Ferrers, Noss Mayo and Plymouth – are infinite in their variety, enhanced as they are by the seasons and whatever the weather delivers!
As well as my original paintings, I produce what I call ‘affordable art’: a range of fine art greetings cards. These are blank inside – ‘man cards’ – and on sale locally at Bonningtons the newsagent, Salcombe Information Centre, Salcombe Yacht Club, Malborough Post Office (who stock the entire range of 59 cards), Bloomers (florist) in Kingsbridge and at the Gallery Project at Avon Mill and at Noss Mayo.
As a full member of Salcombe Art Club, a selection of my work can be seen at the annual exhibition at the Loft Gallery, Victoria Quay. This exhibition is open from Easter until late September.
To arrange a viewing of my work at Beacon House Gallery, please contact me by email or telephone.
Beacon House Gallery is only open to the public during the annual SHAF Trail (in October) and, at others times, by prior arrangement.
