It costs just £10 to take part in the South West Coast Path Challenge, which helps the SWCP Association cover the cost of logistics and sending your registration pack in the post containing your Challenge 2016 t-shirt.
To help repair and improve the Path they are then asking everyone to either fundraise or make a donation.
Don’t forget, if you’re taking part then we have plenty of places to stay here in Salcombe and the South Hams that are on or near the path. Just call or email us here so we can help plan your October stay!
South West Coast Path Trail Running Challenge
If you’re an avid runner or a fanatical fitness enthusiast then the new 17.5 mile South West Coast Path Trail Running Challenge on 2nd October 2016 is for you!
Organised by the Trail Events Co. the 17.5 mile trail run will take runners along the path from the wonderful Mill Bay in East Portlemouth, heading along this glorious section of path, passing through well-known land marks such as Slapton Sands, the gorgeous beaches of Blackpool Sands, Hallsands and Beesands, before finishing in Little Dartmouth just outside of the famous town of Dartmouth.
There will be plenty of feed stations and check points along the route. It is all chipped timed, so you will get your own individually recorded times and splits. Dog owners are also welcome to run the event with their pets. Upon finishing, all participants will receive their free finishers’ T-Shirt and medal.
Damien Hall, an outdoor journalist and ultramarathon runner, currently holds the Fastest-Known-Time for completing the 630 mile trail in just 10 days 15 hours and 18 minutes.
He said: “The South West Coast Path really does spoil the walker or runner. Overall I was left with an impression of how lucky we are on this island of ours to have such sensational scenery. But we can’t take places and paths like this for granted – it’s free to use but it’s not free to maintain and it needs our help. Because, more than anything, I want others to experience the joy that I got from it. Though hopefully – for both their sake, and for mine (because I’d like to keep the record for a while yet if possible) – you’ll walk or run the South West Coast Path in a little less of a rush than me.”
Visit the Trail Challenge website to register, costing just £40 of which £10 will go to the Association.
Just by taking part you are helping to conserve the Path for everyone to enjoy so bravo to you all in advance and good luck from all of us here at Salcombe Tourist Information Centre!
