Thurlestone Beach

Also known as South Milton Sands, this beautiful beach is situated in between Thurlestone and South Milton, and is a fantastic long sandy stretch, perfect for dog walking. The beach itself has the iconic rock out to sea with a hole through it, when the tide is out you can walk all the way out on the rocks to this breathtaking landmark, and when the tide is in many individuals kayak out to it and paddle through. This beach is a prime location for dog walkers and you will meet variety of friendly pooches at this sandy spot. This is a perfect place to watch the sunset and you will find many people having their dinner on the beach and watching the sun slowly go down whilst enjoying the panoramic views.

Note, the South Milton side of the beach is a National Trust location, so if you are a member make sure you park on this side.


Snape’s Point

Away from the hustle of the busy town, Snape’s point is a fantastic location for walking your dog and boasts some breathtaking panoramic views of Salcombe and the surrounding area. This is also a National Trust location and has parking available to access this walk.

We recommend taking your dog here early morning when the sun is just coming up. There is a circular walk so you can go either way and get back to your original parking location which makes it an enjoyable walk for those who wish to follow a footpath and enjoy the idyllic views at the same time with their dog. Be sure to watch out for farm animals when walking through the fields in this beautiful location.


Salcombe – Hope Cove

For those looking for a longer and more challenging walk, the route from Salcombe to Hope Cove is the one for you. A fantastic walk with picturesque views of the turquoise sea and British coastline. The best part about this walk is that you finish your walk in Hope Cove where you can grab lunch or simply a refreshing drink after a challenging walk in one of the pubs or restaurants. There are also two coves that you can take your pooch too, if they still have some energy left to run off!


North Sands

A popular spot for families bringing their dog on holiday with them, make sure to check the tide as this beach is best when the tide is low and your dog can have a full run of this sandy location whilst you enjoy the gorgeous weather, sand and sea. The Winking Prawn is located here so you can grab lunch with a view or simply a takeaway hot drink before your beach stroll. This is a vibrant beach full of life and great to take your dog on. There is parking if you wish to drive straight to the beach and also accessible from town if you wish to stroll over to enjoy this sandy location.


Mill Bay Beach

Dogs are allowed all year round on this beautiful sandy beach which is situated in East Portlemouth. If you are staying within Salcombe or the surrounding area you will need to catch the water taxi across to this beach, which is a short yet beautiful trip to get a full view of Salcombe from the sea. Part of the National Trust, this is a lovely long sandy beach for you and your pooch to enjoy. There are also lovely cliff walks behind this beach if you fancy a long stroll with views overlooking the turquoise waters and Salcombe itself. This is a safe and clean beach perfect for those with young families.
