Let’s make Salcombe plastic clever

A mother and daughter team are campaigning to make Salcombe the first plastic clever town in the UK as part of the national Kids Against Plastic initiative. Anna Turns and her six-year-old daughter Ella are awarding businesses with a plastic clever certificate and window sticker if they are thinking responsibly about single-use plastics and using non-plastic alternatives where possible. So look out for the blue ‘We Are Plastic Clever’ window stickers in Salcombe and around the estuary. So far businesses signed up to the scheme include The Venus Company, The Fortescue Inn,  Salcombe Coffee Company, Salcombe Harbour Hotel, South Sands Hotel and The Bakehouse, Salcombe.

“Plastic is ubiquitous and Salcombe-Kingsbridge estuary is no exception – we want to help protect it by reducing the amount of marine litter and encouraging everyone to switch single-use plastics for reusable options – so for example, bring your own reusable coffee cup for your latte, fill a stainless steel drinking bottle with tap water, say no to straws when you order a drink and remember to pop cloth shopping bags in the boot of your car!” explains Anna. “If we all do our bit, we can make a massive impact – the response to our campaign has been amazing so far and we have big plans for 2018 so watch this space.”
